Oxytocin is a very important hormone

Oxytocin, also known as the love hormone is a shy hormone that is secreted with pleasure, love, social interactions, bonding, during labor, and also while lactating.

This hormone is necessary to have contractions during labor and letdowns while breastfeeding.

While breastfeeding/pumping it could be helpful to know what helps to trigger the oxytocin release so you can understand your body and get more milk, faster.

How?

-Smelling your baby/something with baby’s smell

-Watching baby/baby’s picture

-Hearing baby’s cry or noise (recorded on the phone)

-Touching baby

-relaxation, meditation

-eating your favorite food

-and more…

Stress is blocking the secretion of oxytocin, it is important to find a comfortable place to pump where you feel safe and relaxed.

You may think it is impossible to return to work and do that, but do you know that there is a law to protect you? The IBCLC is here to find the most appropriate and reasonable plan for you, your baby, and your employer depending on your specific situation.
